Friendster: Game Over!!

Well, the game is now done.

Friendster has finally changed the way it presents the personal network counts.

Yesterday, the message was in the by-now-familiar style:
"You are connected to 3,481,382 people in your Personal Network, through 361 friends."

And today, the message is:
"You have 362 1st degree friends, 31,737 2nd degree friends, and 883,358 3rd degree friends in your Personal Network."

I'm (gracefully) taking this as a good time to retire from friendster-whoring. What fun is the collecting when you don't get a 4th degree count???

3.4 million friendsters...well, it was <i>great</i> timewaster, but it's over.

Not to mention the bulliten board sucked ass.

I like the tribes concept of Tribe. I feel it fostors more of a community. Friendster felt like a place to attempt to "hook up" or to friendster whore.

Yep you have to be invited into Orkut. It seems that it's spreading pretty quickly through the Burning Man community. Most of the people I've found on there are burners (Burning Man folk).

Ya you can rate people which is actualy a pretty cool concept. You cannot rate completely annonymously. I think only 1st degree friends can rate. When you rate someone others only see an aggregate score, not who said what. However you can be a fan of someone which others can see.

Overall I'd say tribe has a better community feel thus far.

I agree that Orkut sounds evil...especially this part:

"To make matters worse, the terms of service on Orkut say, "By submitting, posting or displaying any Materials on or through the orkut.com service, you automatically grant to us a worldwide, non-exclusive, sublicenseable, transferable, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable right to copy, distribute, create derivative works of, publicly perform and display such Materials." Yuck! That means Orkut owns all the information I post about myself anywhere on the site. "

Shit, I better go read the Tribe terms of service! hahaha...
